The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a family of single-seat, single-engine, all-weather, stealth, fifth-generation, multi-role combat aircraft designed for ground-attack and air-superiority missions. The F-35's radar-absorbent materials (RAM) are designed to be more durable and require less maintenance than those on the F-117, B-2, and F-22.

The F-35C was developed specifically for the US navy. Design changes included larger wings and a strengthened undercarriage for landings on carriers.
